Towards a greater understanding of seed production in forest tree species
Seed production varies from one year to the next. In order to manage low seed production and to accommodate highly productive years, we need to learn more about the biology of flowering and seed production. Most tree species have a two year reproductive cycle, so it is possible to predict cone/ flower crops in the year of initiation. The main advantage of methods based on data collected in year 1 of cycle is the longer lead-in time for planning in a seed collection programme. More ..
